past, current and future

WRA has been involved in the organisation of a number of major projects with the Centre for Performance Research in Cardiff, Wales including the International School of Theatre Anthropology Meeting (1992), Points of Contact (Performance, Nature & Culture, 1989; Performance, Ritual & Shamanism 1993; Performance, Food & Cookery 1994) and Devising & Documentation I (1993), Giving Voice (1995) and Performance, Tourism and Identity (1996).

In August 1994, WRA organised the 9-day international workshop/ conference * The Connected Body?* in Amsterdam in association with the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (SNDO), aimed at interdisciplinary and professional development in the field of new dance and performance art. A book arising from the project entitled *The Connected Body? an interdisciplinary approach to the body and performance* (Eds. Ric Allsopp and Scott deLahunta, Amsterdam School of the Arts, 1996) has been published and is available through your local bookstore (distribution: IDEA Books, Amsterdam, NL / ISBN 90 71681 03 3).

WRA organised a 5-day international workshop/ conference called Performance Writing which took place 9-14th April 1996 at Dartington College, Devon, UK. It included three days of intensive workshops led by writers, live art practitioners and text-based artists of international repute followed by a two day interdisciplinary conference and a range of performances, exhibitions, complementary events and presentations in various media. The event was one of the first such gatherings to bring professionals and students working in this emergent field together to explore the various contemporary discourses and practices that at present define writing and its performance.

WRA recently organised Connecting Bodies --an International Symposium which took place from 15-16 June 1996 during Bodies of Influence in Amsterdam. This two day international symposium on the connections between the discourses and practices of dance and technology focussed specifically on the impact of new media technologies on dance making/ choreography. Choreographers, scholars, media artists and technology specialists were invited from Europe, Canada and the USA to give illustrated papers, lecture demonstrations and performances.
